Gist roll up their sleeves for Star Nursery

Logistics company Gist Limited gave up a day to tend to a over grown garden at Star Nursery in Chiltern Way.

15 volunteers from Gist ripped out overgrown hedges, dig a vegetable patch and plant hundreds of blubs to help the not-for-profit nursery get closer towards their goal of creating a sensory garden and new play area for the 69 children that attend the nursery.

Martin Gwynn, Chief Executive of Gist said: “It is good for our people to help out in the local community. We try to do a lot with charity, but it is nicer to do it where there is a local need. The work that they do here is excellent.”

‘The Tricky Issues of Sickness and Absence’

Earlier this month, Phillips Solicitors in association with HR Solutions 4U hosted a breakfast seminar to discuss ‘The Tricky Issues of Sickness and Absence’ at Chineham Business Park.

A good representation of HR professionals and business owners from companies across Hampshire were rewarded for their early start by hearing two informative and witty presentations by Alastair Hodge, an eminent employment barrister, and Laura Davis, Managing Director of HR Solutions 4U.

Laura Davis interspersed the serious points that she made about employers’ responsibilities with some hilarious real life examples given to companies as ‘reasons’ for not attending work due to sickness. These included the memorable example, ‘I’m suffering from pre-eclampsia’ – from a man!

Alastair Hodge discussed the key issues of employers' responsibilities under disability discrimination law and unfair dismissal on ill health grounds and gave case summaries highlighting the sometimes considerable costs to employers when sickness and absence issues are mishandled.

The future of fitness is here...freestyle training

Fitness First based on the Park in Spindlewood has created a new Freestyle area of the gym.

This new area has the latest training equipment configured in a space big enough to use it.

Think of it as an adult playground packed with the equipment to jump, leap, bend and twist your way to fitness. Rather than focusing on one single muscle group, Freestyle training gives you the freedom to mimic natural forms of movement in all directions.

It'll train your body for activities performed in everyday life so you'll perform better at work and at home. You'll improve your mobility, flexibility, balance and strength in all areas and decrease injuries and joint pain.

But above all, you'll have fun.

The freestyle zone will showcase the leading fitness tools in the industry, including:

    ViPR
    Suspension training
    Kettlebells
    Bosu balls
    Power bags
    Steelbells

And because they're in a dedicated area of the gym, you can easily see what's new and our team can quickly and simply demonstrate how to use them.

The Freestyle boards are full of useful tips on how to use the equipment plus a Freestyle six week training programme booklet containing six fun and varied workouts for your to try at your own pace will be available.
