Twelve awards went to both companies and individuals from across the north Hampshire area including Basingstoke, Farnborough and Hook.

Another Successful Bowling Night

Micro-P Expands At Chineham Park

Micro-Peripherals Ltd, one of the oldest and largest distributors of IT and technology products in the UK reseller market, has expanded at MEPC Chineham Park, Basingstoke's leading business location.

Micro-P has moved from 1 Lindenwood to 1 Elmwood, having increased its Basingstoke workforce by 31% from 130 to 170 employees in the last year.

Mark Kahr, director for Micro-Peripherals Ltd, said: “Micro-P’s business has grown exponentially over the last four years and with our ever expanding workforce, we found ourselves needing to relocate to larger offices.

Chineham Park Promotes Outdoor Area With Jazz Band

MEPC Chineham Park, Basingstoke's leading business location, has launched an al fresco area for the summer season with a jazz band entertaining occupiers over lunchtime in the Spindlewood amenity area of the park.

Temperatures have already reached 31oC in Basingstoke this year with more hot weather predicted over the summer months.

UKN Enhances Portfolio

Specialist IT services firm, UKN Group Limited, has doubled its office space in Basingstoke to facilitate the expansion of its Managed Services client base of Private and Public Sector clients.

UKN has moved its headquarters from the Lindenwood phase of MEPC’s Chineham Park, to 300 Cedarwood, a stand alone, two storey building of 8,300 sq ft.

Michael Eaton, chief executive officer for UKN, said: “Having established our headquarters here at Chineham Park as recently as 2009, our rapid rate of growth meant we needed to move quickly with the least disruption to our business and staff. Our Managed Service business continues to grow which has given us the opportunity to scale up the Service Centre and increase our Professional Service resources. We have also established a technology suite, to demonstrate to our clients and prospects, the comprehensive suite of Cloud Computing capabilities.

Chineham Park Launches Park Watch

Chineham Park, Basingstoke's leading business location, has launched Park Watch, a survey of the birds spotted on the park over a month using Twitter.

Occupiers have been invited to tell us what they see and when they spot it on the park from Friday 08 April 2011 until Friday 06 May 2011.

People walking through the park, occupier visitors and members of the public using the onsite facilities can submit online too.

The birds have to be seen within a specific boundary and the Tweets collected throughout the month will form the survey results, which will be published at the end of May.

Rupert Batho, managing director for MEPC Chineham Park, said: “The ability to use social media on your mobile phone allows our occupiers and visitors to tweet what birds they see on the park instantly. Whether they are on their way to lunch, in their car or sat at their desk, Twitter is a convenient and quick way to collect data. We know from our occupiers that they do spot a wide variety of birds on the park and we wanted to get some more specific information about the birds that they see.”

MEPC reports on a positive 2010

2010 proved to be an encouraging year for MEPC’s leasing results with 213 leasing deals generating £2.2m pa of net additional income, with a strong lettings performance at both Hilllington Park and Milton Park.

Portfolio wide vacancy rates fell below 10% which is a ‘first’ in five years. Customer retention rates at lease breaks/expiries is still amongst the best in the industry at 86%.

MEPC confirmed plans to prepay £102m of the £470m loan securitised via Opera Finance (MEPC) plc in early 2011. Rick de Blaby, Chief Executive comments ‘MEPC is now positioned for a new and exciting phase of activity and performance in 2011 where we will continue to focus on driving revenue and maintaining customer focus to deliver investment performance’.

Town Buses Benefit From New Chineham Park Fuel Point

MEPC Chineham Park, Basingstoke's leading business location, has invested in a fuel filling point where the town's Park and Ride buses and its own courtesy coaches can refuel.

Rupert Batho, managing director for MEPC Chineham Park, said: “Our new courtesy coaches run on used cooking oil (UCO) which is more environmentally friendly, but the nearest refueling depot meant that the coaches would have to travel approximately 30 miles every day. We decided the most sensible option was to create a fuel filling point at Chineham Park for our coaches and the local council’s Park and Ride buses, which also run on UCO.”

Borough cabinet member for the environment and climate change, Cllr Elaine Still, said: “The refueling service at Chineham Park is very convenient and also helps to enhance the service we offer to the local community. Having such a facility on our doorstep minimises the town transport fuel consumption and maximises Basingstoke’s offering.”

Talent Week At Festival Place

Festival Place will be hosting an interactive talent week from Monday 25 October 2010 to Friday 29 October 2010, designed to encourage young people in the community to look at a variety of career options that are available in the local and wider area.

The event is an initiative driven by the British Council of Shopping Centres and aims to raise the working aspirations of young people in the regions of their member shopping centres.

Chineham Park Raises Money For Naomi House

Chineham Park has raised £3,500 for Naomi House Children’s Hospice, having entered a team which completed the London to Paris bike ride last week.

The Chineham Park team, managing director Rupert Batho and estate manager Richard Hawkes, cycled for three and a half days covering nearly 500km starting from the UK's capital, through the English countryside over to France and on to Paris, finishing under the Eiffel Tower.

Rupert Batho, managing director for MEPC Chineham Park, said: “The London to Paris bike ride was extremely challenging, but we were determined to complete the cycle and raise as much money as we could for Naomi House.”

Welcome to Spotlight, Parklife’s new feature. Every month Parklife will interview a different Chineham Park employee to give you an exclusive insight into other occupiers on the park.

This month Parklife put Laurie Pruvost from Hello Paris Ltd in the Spotlight.

Who do you work for and what do they do?

I am the managing director of Hello Paris, which sells Paris extras to private customers and small tour operators. Anything from a travel card to travel on public transport, a museum pass to visit lots of museums without queuing, tickets to glittery cabaret shows and Disney.

What does your job role involve?

Oh God, where shall I start? I have to make sure we have enough business to maintain employment mainly. I am responsible for the jobs of eight people. It is a big responsibility. I have to maintain my customer’s database, get more, travel and attend exhibitions to do so, juggling with money and the exchange rate is another daunting task. Honestly, I would need three pages to tell you all the things involved in running two companies.

What do you like about working on Chineham Park?

I like the environment, the landscape gardens, the gym, the nursery for my staff, Dayer’s restaurant and take away. But, mainly it is the environment. I visited so many cheaper offices, but they were either facing a scrap yard, behind a railway line or next to a builder’s merchant. I thought my staff would hate it and I like to have a happy workforce.

Which Chineham Park amenities do you use?

I use all of the amenities. I go to Dayer’s both to the restaurant and for sandwiches regularly, one of my girls has put her three year old son in the nursery and I am now a member of Fitness First as is my daughter.

What do you do on your lunch break?

Lunch break? What lunch break? I do not have time, but I do go to yoga on a Thursday.

What are your interests outside of work?

My main interest outside of work is my motorcycle, which is my passion. Fighter planes, aircraft carriers, submarines. Ask me to choose between going to an air show or the shops.

Are you a collector of anything?

I collect fighter plane keyrings and pins. I have a Typhoon and an F-117 keyring and B2, Typhoon and Blackbird pins.

What is the best present you have ever received?

The best present I have ever received was a sat nav for my motorbike.

What is the worst present you have ever received?

The worst present I have ever received were two ugly porcelain figures representing a marquis and marquise. Yuk!

What single thing would improve your life?

To have more me time would improve my life.

What is the greatest lesson you ever learned?

Rationalise! If something is not done in time, it is not the end of the world. Look around you, people are dying.

What motivates you?

My daughter motivates me. Everything I do today is for her tomorrow.

What is your motto in life?

I will do this! Whatever it takes!

What is the first thing you notice about people?

The first thing I notice is whether they are smiling or not.

Which TV show would you like to be in and why?

I would like to be in Megastructures. I love all things big and I would absolutely love to be able to follow a reporter on a mission about something enormous.

If you went on Mastermind what would be your specialist subject?

My specialist subject would be fighter planes.

Who would you like to be for a day and why?

I would like to be the person in charge of the US Air Force so I could spend one day flying in a B2 bomber.

You have won a round the world trip with five stopovers. Where would they be?

The USA, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia and the Galapagos Islands.

What is your least favourite mode of transport and why?

Chineham Park, Basingstoke's leading business location, has announced The Blazingsmoke as the winner of its Basingstoke sandwich competition in association with Dayer's Fine Foods, the park's onsite restaurant.

The Blazingsmoke, created by Laura Finney, was the biggest selling sandwich of the competition and its ingredients include smoked ham or smoked bacon with crisp lettuce and a spicy fresh tomato salsa.

Laura Finney, business development assistant for HCR Group the UK’s largest independent relocation company, said: “I was thrilled to win such a fantastic and unusual competition. It was great to see businesses give something back to the local community. My prize was amazing and has caused a great deal of envy at work.

“Many of our staff recently volunteered for a tree planting day as part of HCR’s pledge to plant a tree for every corporate relocation undertaken. Therefore, I have decided to raffle off the prize of one month’s worth of sandwiches to help raise money for our next planting day.

“I hope that Dayer’s and MEPC especially, as a UK Green Building Council member, will be pleased to hear that they have helped us continue to reduce the UK’s carbon footprint.”

The annual fun day, held outside Central 40 between 12h00 and 14h00, was free to attend for all those working at Chineham Park.

The challenge takes 60 corporate teams of four on a head-to-head, multi-sport adventure designed to test the mind, challenge the body and build team spirit. Taking place over the weekend of 21 May 2010 entrants will camp in the stunning backdrop of the Brecon Beacons, the perfect office getaway.

Featuring a series of unique group challenges in a fun and competitive environment, the winning team will depend not simply on fitness levels, but on making smart decisions, thinking laterally and communicating effectively.

The Great Escape Challenge brings a variety of benefits back to the workplace including delegation and team working skills. As an exclusively corporate event, it also presents some serious networking opportunities with companies from across the UK.

Ray Mears said: “I’m urging companies to sign up for Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Great Escape Challenge. It will test teams on a variety of skills and strengths as well as bringing them together. Business Park Responds To Survey Results

We had nearly 400 responses to the occupier’s survey that was issued earlier this year and we would like to thank those of you who completed it. From this questionnaire a number of points were raised and we have responded to these by taking the following actions.

Overall, 73% of you thought Chineham Park was a good or great place to work and 82% of you believed the landscaping was good to excellent.

However, a few of you commented about the limited number of benches around the estate. Chineham Park is now intending to create a variety of “outdoor rooms” by the spring of next year so that the environment can be enjoyed more fully when the sun returns!

Several of you noted the approach to the park was only average. Chineham Park is now looking at ways to improve this and you will start to see the results before Christmas.

98% of you mentioned the courtesy coach service ran on time, but despite over 50% of you living within ten miles of the park, the number of you regularly using the courtesy coach has fallen. Therefore Chineham Park will now be upgrading the coaches in early 2010 to encourage more usage.

Those of you who walk to work expressed concern over safety, especially on the public footpath into the park from Hanmore Road via the railway underpass. Chineham Park has now raised this issue with the Chineham Village Security Forum and budgeted for enhanced lighting and a security camera to cover the footpath from the estates boundary.

Finally, 88% of you said the food selection at Dayer’s Fine Foods was good to excellent, but there was room for improvement with the speed of delivery. Chineham Park has been working closely with Dayer’s Fine Foods to undertake a range of measures to improve this and you may already be benefitting from some of the changes.

Chineham Park is celebrating the success of its Mexican themed summer party held on Friday 31 July 2009 between 12h00 and 14h00.

The annual fun day, in the Spindlewood area of the park, was free to attend for all those working on Chineham Park.

Jo Szegota, asset manager for MEPC Chineham Park, said: “Chineham Park is home to over 40 organisations and the summer party is a great opportunity for occupiers to interact with neighbouring businesses.

“It is our way of giving something back to these organisations to thank them for making Chineham Park such a great place to work.”

Party-goers tucked into Tex-Mex inspired cuisine including chilli, fajitas and burritos and took part in a competition to see who could stay on a bucking bronco the longest.

Chineham Park bus service weathers the snow storm

Heathrow Airport was closed, the M1 motorway was shut and businesses across the South East were complaining about the transport chaos. Chineham Park, however, still had a full bus service running every day as normal throughout the bad weather that has seen a large proportion of the UK’s workforce grind to a halt. Both complimentary buses kept to their timetables and offered a hassle-free option for workers at Chineham Park.

Wendy Fletcher, Travel Coordinator for MEPC Chineham Park explains, “Our bus service has been applauded for its environmental impact but in weather such as we all experienced this week, it shows that the bus service can be more reliable than most other transport links. Thanks to the dedication of our drivers our bus service kept Chineham Park open for business through the worst snow storms for two decades. We had masses of calls on Monday to ask if the service was running and we were able to assure all our occupiers and their employees that there was a safe and dependable transport option.”

The service operates every 15 minutes during peak times throughout the day between 07h15 and 18h30, shuttling people working on the Park to and from Basingstoke Train Station, undertaking 160,000 passenger trips in 2008.

Capita Business Services sign up to Chineham Park’s refurbished Cedarwood scheme

Capita Business Services, a trading division of Capita Group Plc, have acquired a lease on a building totalling over 12,000 sqft at MEPC’s Chineham Park, making a successful start to 2009 for the property company, following a number of key lettings achieved last year within Basingstoke’s flagship business area.

Capita, have taken a lease on 100 and 200 Cedarwood immediately following the completion of refurbishments. Capita’s requirement relates to the Gas Safety Register contract which the Business Services division recently secured from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Capita Business Services will be responsible for the registering of all approved Gas Safety Installers, validating qualifications and inspecting gas work as part of this major contract.

Rupert Batho, Chineham Park’s Managing Director said: “The decision to progress with the phased refurbishment of the Cedarwood building, in order to bring it up to date for the modern occupier has been vindicated with an effective pre-let to a major Plc. We look forward to a productive relationship with Capita at Chineham over the forthcoming months and years”.

He added: “2008 was a very successful year for us and the Park has gone from strength to strength. This year we will continue to build on the successful formula of providing our occupiers with all their property and amenity needs that are essential to their staff, on the right commercial terms. ”.

Peter Eldridge, Managing Director of the new Gas Safety Register service at Capita expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition saying: “It made a lot of sense to house the staff in the Cedarwood buildings immediately following the refurbishment. Many of the staff are locally based and familiar with the business park. The timely delivery of these refurbished buildings with the commencement of the Gas Safety Register contract, combined with the flexibility of the accommodation, made the decision a straight forward one for us.

Christmas has come early to Chineham Park as one of their famous Red Men pays a festive visit to unveil Central 40, the newest building and the largest new office space in Basingstoke.

MEPC Chineham Park wins Sustainable Business of the Year

They were awarded the title for the many initiatives they have introduced to the Park, including a car-sharing scheme, Share & Care. The scheme allows users to locate other people working at Chineham Park who make the same or similar journey to work each day and then arrange to share lifts, saving up to an estimated £2,930 in travel costs and a massive nine tonnes of CO2 each year.

Kids Unlimited Celebrates 25 Years with Cake Competition at Chineham Park

Children from the Kids Unlimited nursery in Chineham Park showed off their artistic skills at the weekend by decorating cakes in honour of the 25th anniversary of Kids Unlimited.

The nursery hosted a summer fun day on Saturday 27th September for the children and their families, where they enjoyed the activities organised by the nursery, including face painting and a bouncy castle, as well as the cake decorating competition sponsored by MEPC Chineham Park, for which the children were asked to decorate a cake.

Jo Szegota, asset manager for MEPC Chineham Park, came along to judge the winner. She said; “This was a great day out for the children and their families and allowed the children to get involved in celebrating the nursery’s anniversary. Kids Unlimited is a great asset to the park as they provide discounted childcare to our occupiers in a central location.”

The winning cake designer, Mattia Marchesini was awarded with his prize of a family day out to Marwell Zoo including spending money, after impressing all involved with his colourful icing.

MEPC Chineham Park held their annual fun day on Friday 18^th July with the theme of a beach party, complete with an authentic Caribbean BBQ, steel band and a surf simulator.

The event, in the Spindlewood area of the park, was free to attend for all occupants and employees at the site, of which 500 turned up on the day to enjoy the festivities. Rupert Batho, Managing Director of Chineham Park said: “Chineham Park is home to over 40 organisations and so we see it as a community; we would like all who work here to feel as though they belong. Organising the annual fun day is our way of giving something back to them to thank them for making it such a great place to work.”

Even the weather was in support of the party, with the rain holding off until after the party had finished. The party-goers listened to the music of a steel band and enjoyed a BBQ by Caribbean Cookpot, a company who specialise in providing authentic Caribbean catering services, with chefs from both Barbados and Jamaica. The guests then spent the afternoon trying out the surf simulator to see who could stay on the longest! Donna Williams, a recent newcomer to Chineham Park and Call Dispatcher – Hardware for Kofax UK Ltd, said: “It was lovely to feel part of something bigger than just one company and great to network with other people working on the park.”

SELECTA UK EXPANDS TO CHINEHAM PARK

Selecta

, who are part of the Selecta group which is the largest food and beverage vending services operator in Europe, are the newest residents of Chineham Park.

The company, who are headquartered in the Daneshill area of Basingstoke, are continuing to expand and needed extra space for their distribution and service functions. They have moved into the Beechwood area of Chineham Park and now have 5,022 sq ft of warehouse space that had recently been refurbished by MEPC.

Martin Trenter, Area Service & Facilities Manager for Selecta UK said: “Our previous property could only be used for office space whereas our new site at Chineham Park gives us enough space for our offices and warehouse. Being part of the community here at Chineham Park also allows us to network with other businesses.”

A Striking Success

Paper manufacturer, Arjo Wiggins came through to win a nail-biting victory in the first-ever ‘Chineham Challenge Cup’ bowling tournament for occupiers, organised by MEPC Chineham Park.

After the first and second game, Arjo Wiggins were hot on the heels of Ericsson. Arjo Wiggins determination was such that they never gave up and showed great teamwork, clinching the whole tournament. They bowled their corporate neighbours over by an amazing four points and took the top spot with a score of 790.

The Oscar style golden trophy was presented by Jo Szegota, Asset Manager and Wendy Fletcher, Estate Assistant at MEPC Chineham Park to team players Richard Lloyd, Martin Newell, Mark Scully, Shona Stronach, Suzanne Brown and Claire Saunders who all played outstandingly.

Team captain, Richard said: “Thanks to Chineham Park for organising a great night. The buffet was super, the hospitality was good and the victory finished the night perfectly.”

Geoff Warner who was playing for Hama said: “Well done to Arjo they played an excellent game and our team relished the challenge. They played their best and gave it their all and we look forward to an event such as this being held again.”

Organiser, Wendy said: “It was a fantastic evening and everyone had an enjoyable time. It was good to see local business pulling together for our first ever Challenge Cup, networking and having fun. I would like to say thank you to all the teams Arjo, Ericsson, Alida, Hama, Fitness First and Kone – you were all such good sports.

Go Green - Chineham Park finds greener ways to travel

Thank you to everyone who took part in the first ever travel survey. Over 650 responses were received.

Congratulations to Daniel Leng from Micro Peripherals in Lindenwood; his entry was chosen from our lucky draw and he is now the proud owner of a £300 mountain bike.

The survey, which was sent to all businesses located at Chineham Park, was designed to identify key areas to make sustainable travel easier. People were asked questions, about their methods of transport and the results revealed the following:

39% of respondents expressed an interest in utilising a car share scheme. Consequently MEPC have met with Lift Share UK and are creating a car share scheme on the Chineham Park website to help all of us adopt more sustainable ways to travel to work. This scheme will be going live in April and further information will follow in due course.

Many people travel from the same area each day and what is apparent from the results is that some of these journeys could be shared, which would:

Reduce fuel costs by sharing day-to-day expenses
Decrease congestion and save valuable time at the beginning and end of the day
Cut down stress
Enhance the re-sale value of cars by reducing the mileage and wear and tear
Give users a more sociable and less stressful way of travelling
Reduce traffic pollution and minimise the impact on local communities and the environment

The survey also showed that 15% of respondents utilise the courtesy coaches as their main form of transport. The Park's dedicated and complimentary bus service runs between Chineham Park and Basingstoke railway station every 15 minutes at peak hours. In 2007 the coaches undertook 150,000 passenger movements, which is a 10% increase on the 2006 level.

69% of respondents mentioned that if cycle routes were improved and safer they would be more encouraged to cycle to work. And, over 12.6% of our occupiers would be encouraged to walk to work more often if the access onto the park was better lit. As a result of these findings, we are in the process of liaising with the local council to encourage them to extend the cycle lane further into the park and improve the lighting on the public footpaths.

Wendy Fletcher, Travel Co-ordinator at MEPC Chineham Park said,"The feedback and views in surveys, such as this, helps MEPC to strive to meet the needs of everyone who works here. It's only by receiving such feedback that improvements can be made."

A great place for business to grow

The UK will be the European hub for Valeant Pharmaceuticals, which is good news for people living in the Basingstoke and the surrounding area, as Chineham Park has been chosen as the location for their expansion.

The global speciality pharmaceutical company has taken 11,000 sq ft of space in the newly refurbished 9-11 offices at Cedarwood. This will create more jobs in the local area.

Colin Terry, VP & General Manager, Northern Europe for Valeant Pharmaceuticals is delighted with their new offices and says 'We have been based at Chineham for nearly 10 years, but as a result of UK growth and European expansion over the past couple of years, recognised that there was the need to grow our offices. We have been very happy at Chineham, and as staff retention was a crucial driver in our decision making process, we wanted to remain within Basingstoke. The new buildings at Cedarwood were perfect for us as it has given the company the right space, profile and flexibility as the platform to develop our business throughout the Continent.'

Cedarwood is another example of how Chineham Park is committed to sustainability. The refurbishment process uses less materials and energy than demolishing and starting a new build.
